Tourism Sector Contributes 9% to GDP, Generates 400,000 Jobs

During a joint plenary session of the parliament and the council of regions and governorates to discuss the tourism sector's budget, Minister of Tourism Sofiane Tekaya highlighted that the tourism industry contributes approximately 9% to the country's GDP and generates 400,000 direct and indirect jobs. The sector's revenue exceeded 6.9 billion dinars in the previous year.

Tekaya emphasized that the number of visitors until the end of October 2024 surpassed 8.6 million tourists, representing an 8.6% increase compared to the same period in the previous year, generating estimated tourism revenue of 6.241 billion dinars.

Furthermore, he also declared that the number of nights spent in hotel establishments reached 24.4 million during the same period, with a 5% increase compared to the same period in the previous year.

The value of investments made in the tourism sector during the current year has reached 146 million dinars, while ongoing investments amount to 169 million dinars.
