Morocco Sees Ambitions Soar in Mobile Connectivity
The Moroccan government has announced a massive investment plan of 80 billion dirhams (approximately $8.9 billion) to generalize access to 5G across the kingdom. The goal is to cover 85% of the Moroccan population by 2030, exceeding the initial target of 70% set in the "Morocco Digital 2030" strategy.
Program Launch and Objectives
The program is set to begin in late 2025 and is part of a national digital transformation dynamic. In addition to deploying 5G, the National Telecommunications Regulatory Agency (ANRT) plans to:
- Update the National Frequency Plan (PNF)
- Extend the fiber optic network
- Improve high-speed internet access, particularly in rural, mountainous, and underserved areas
Identifying and Prioritizing Underserved Areas
A national survey will be conducted to identify areas with low coverage and integrate them into a priority digital development plan. This initiative aims to bridge the digital divide and ensure that all Moroccans have access to reliable and high-speed internet connectivity.
By 2030, Morocco is poised to become a leader in mobile connectivity, driving economic growth, innovation, and digital inclusion.
