Minister of Agriculture Announces 80% Coverage of Food Trade Balance by 2025
Speaking at the opening of the dialogue session with the National Council of Regions and Territories, Minister of Agriculture Azzedine Balchikh announced on Thursday, January 30, 2025, that the food trade balance is expected to be covered by 80% on average for the period from 2023 to 2025.
The coverage rate reached 96% in 2024, mainly due to the high pace of olive oil exports, he specified, adding that the potential achievements of public agricultural projects during the 2023-2025 period are estimated at 1,964 million dinars.
It is worth noting that the food trade balance measures the difference between a country's food exports and imports. A surplus indicates that the country exports more than it imports, while a deficit means it imports more than it exports. It reflects a country's food independence and its overall economic impact.
