UNDP and Conect Unveil the 7th Edition of the "Miqyes" Barometer, Focusing on Sustainable Development
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Conect presented the results of the second survey of the 7th edition of the "Miqyes" barometer, focusing on sustainable development. The study, conducted among 200 Tunisian companies, aims to evaluate the integration of responsible practices in their operations and identify the levers and barriers to sustainable transition.
Growing Commitment to Environmental and Social Programs
63.5% of companies plan to launch an environmental and social program within the next five years, reflecting a growing awareness of the importance of energy efficiency and low-carbon transition.
Major Obstacles: Financing and Technical Skills
However, the lack of dedicated financing remains the main obstacle, with over half of the funding coming from internal resources. The deficit of technical skills is another significant barrier.
Common Actions and Limited Impact
The most common actions concern waste management and awareness. However, few companies measure their carbon footprint or use renewable energy. Engagement often remains sectoral and motivated by regulatory constraints, particularly in the industry.
Need for Structuring and Recognition
Only 14% of companies use a recognized framework to evaluate their performance, and nearly 43% do not communicate about their actions. This lack of measurement and transparency limits the impact and valorization of sustainable approaches. Furthermore, 69% of companies are interested in RSE certification, but only 15% have already initiated a formal process, highlighting the need for support to take this step.
Conclusion
The Miqyes 2024 survey highlights the growing commitment of Tunisian SMEs to sustainable development, but also the significant challenges to be overcome. To succeed in this transition, targeted support in terms of financing, and structuring is indispensable.
