Agricultural Season 2024-2025: Nabeul Governorate Aims to Cultivate 70,000 Hectares

For the 2024-2025 agricultural season, the Nabeul Governorate plans to cultivate nearly 70,000 hectares, with a priority given to durum wheat, which will occupy approximately 50,000 hectares.

These forecasts are similar to those of the previous year. According to Mohamed Ben Maouia, President of the Local Union of Agriculture and Fisheries, the areas dedicated to irrigated crops are expected to increase significantly, reaching 1,300 hectares compared to 950 hectares in previous years, representing a 30% increase.

Sowing operations are already well advanced, covering 70% of the planned surfaces.

However, farmers are facing difficulties related to the availability of inputs, particularly pesticides such as DAP and Super 45.

Ben Maouia emphasized the importance of rapid supply to avoid delaying agricultural operations.

Regarding fertilizers, a first delivery of 2,500 quintals of wheat is expected, which is much less than the region's needs, estimated at 12,000 quintals.

It is worth noting that the Nabeul Governorate contributes 15% to the national cereal production, a significant share that highlights its important role in the country's food security.
