Private Sector Agriculture, Fishing, and Aquaculture Show Strong Momentum in 2025
The private sector of agriculture, fishing, and aquaculture is experiencing a significant surge in 2025. Although the number of projects has decreased slightly, the value of approved investments has increased substantially, indicating an upgrade in operations.
Larger Investments Boost Growth
A total of 6,513 projects have been validated, representing a 7% decrease compared to 2024. However, their value has reached 547,991 million dinars (Mtnd), up from 478,534 Mtnd last year, marking a 15% increase. This progress can be attributed to the sources of financing. Self-financing has increased by 16% to 259,336 Mtnd, while credits have jumped by 40% to 155,734 Mtnd. Subsidies have decreased slightly by 7% to 132,919 Mtnd.
Agriculture and Aquaculture Lead the Way
Agriculture remains the backbone, capturing 275,342 Mtnd, or 53% of the total. Aquaculture has seen a significant surge, from 25,956 Mtnd in 2024 to 88,088 Mtnd this year. Maritime fishing has decreased by 17% to 42,751 Mtnd, while agricultural services account for 19% and primary processing for 2%.
Investments Concentrate in Central and Eastern Regions
The central and eastern regions have attracted the majority of investments. The Époque 3 region (Sousse, Monastir, Mahdia, Kairouan, Kasserine) has totaled 177,839 Mtnd, representing 32% of the total. Tunis and the Greater Tunis area (Époque 2) have seen a 48% increase, but only account for 13% of the volume.
Positive Impact on Employment and Inclusion
These investments have had a positive impact on employment and inclusion. Young entrepreneurs represent 10% of the value, or 51,066 Mtnd, while women account for 3.6%, or 18,605 Mtnd. Community companies have had 35 projects, mainly in sheep farming, worth 8.9 Mtnd, resulting in the creation of 3,015 permanent jobs.
Foreign Capital Flows In
Foreign investment in agriculture has doubled, from 7,997 Mtnd in 2024 to 20,946 Mtnd in 2025, confirming Tunisia's growing appeal to global investors.
