Government to Establish Credit Lines for Tunisian SMEs Worth €500 Million
To address the financing challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Tunisia, the government is setting up credit lines totaling €500 million.
According to the Ministry of Economy and Planning, financial allocations are being provided by international banks such as the World Bank, the European Investment Bank (EIB), and the African Development Bank to support SMEs by making credit lines available to them.
In 2023, a $120 million loan from the World Bank and a €170 million loan from the EIB were allocated to Tunisian banks to support local SMEs.
A new agreement worth €80 million, in partnership with the French Development Agency, is expected to be presented to the Council of Ministers soon.
Additionally, a supplementary program worth €90 million with the African Development Bank (AfDB) is still awaiting legislative validation.
The government hopes that these efforts will not only support the growth of local businesses but also encourage private investment.
