University Scholarships: A Breath of Fresh Air for Tunisian Students
As every year, the amount of university scholarships is set by the finance law. This is crucial information for students who take early responsibility for their studies and fight against a high cost of living. Although the scholarship amount is modest in absolute terms, it represents a breath of fresh air for those who are lucky enough to benefit from it.
In 2025, the sum allocated to students pursuing their studies in Tunisia, in the form of scholarships and university loans, amounts to 227.3 million Tunisian dinars (Mtnd), a significant increase compared to the amount allocated last year, which was 156.7 Mtnd. 40% of the student population enrolled in Tunisian universities, or 104,551 students, will benefit from one of these two financing mechanisms for their studies.
A sum of 1.1 Mtnd will be allocated to children of Tunisians living abroad and pursuing their studies in Tunisia, as well as to those from needy families, in the form of scholarships. The envelope for university loans dedicated to this category of students will total 4.2 Mtnd.
As for Tunisian students pursuing their studies abroad, 2,813 of them will be entitled to scholarships, totaling 48.3 Mtnd, including tuition fees, insurance, school supplies, and airfare.
In addition, an envelope of 18 Mtnd will be allocated as an integration premium for 36,000 students from low- or middle-income families, or 500 Tnd per new student.
University scholarships and loans are a mechanism to promote equal opportunities, and we believe that this deserves even more resources. An effort has been made this year, and it must be continued to allow a greater proportion of students to benefit from it.
