World Cities Day: Fostering Sustainable Urban Development in Tunisia

The World Cities Day, to be held on October 31, 2025, at the French Institute of Tunis, will provide an opportunity to discuss urban challenges in Tunisia under the theme "Living in the city, acting on the city". Organized by UN-Habitat Tunisia, the Institute for Research and Development (IRD), and the French Development Agency (AFD), this event is part of the Urban October initiative, a global effort to promote sustainable and inclusive urban development.

Tunisia is facing significant urban challenges, including the management of rapid city growth, land pressure, access to services, and vulnerability to climate change. This day will allow for an exchange of innovative solutions to address these challenges, focusing on topics such as:

  • Water management
  • Integrating risk into urban planning
  • Heritage conservation
  • Inclusive planning

Roundtable discussions will bring together public actors, researchers, urban planners, and citizens to discuss these issues, while an exhibition will highlight concrete initiatives for more resilient cities. The event, which will take place from 11:00 AM to 10:00 PM, aims to strengthen cooperation between local and international actors for a sustainable urban future in Tunisia.
