Tunisian-Chinese Economic Forum: A Step towards Strengthening Bilateral Cooperation

A Tunisian-Chinese economic forum was held on September 23-24 in Tunis, organized by the Foreign Investment Promotion Agency (FIPA) and the Tunisian Federation of Textile and Clothing (FTTH). This event also provided an opportunity for a Chinese delegation, comprising 30 business leaders, high-ranking officials, and textile industry professionals, to visit local enterprises.

Highlighting Investment Opportunities

Jalel Tebib, Director General of FIPA, Namia Ayadi, President of the Tunisian Investment Authority (TIA), and Haithem Bouajila, President of FTTH, highlighted the investment opportunities, particularly in the textile and clothing sector, which represents a high-value-added domain for Tunisia.

Chinese Interest in Tunisian Textile Expertise

The Vice-President of the Chinese National Textile and Apparel Council expressed the interest of Chinese investors in Tunisian know-how in garment manufacturing and textile production, and explored partnership possibilities in this sector. He added that Tunisia could become a hub for accessing European and African markets.

Delegation Visits Leading Textile Enterprises

The Chinese delegation's program included visits to three leading textile companies in the governorate of Bizerte. These companies, "Production International Company" (PIC), "Washing & Manufacturing International Company" (WIC MIC Group), and "Denim Authority", specialize in the manufacturing of various articles and denim jeans production for international brands.

Textile Sector: A Pillar of the Tunisian Economy

It is worth noting that the textile and clothing sector in Tunisia is one of the main pillars of the national economy. The country has over 1,530 enterprises, with around 1,200 oriented towards exportation, employing more than 158,000 people, according to the agency.
