Supporting Small-Scale Farmers: Tunisia Launches Initiative to Ensure Olive Harvest Success

In a bid to support small-scale farmers and guarantee the success of the 2024-2025 olive harvest season, a joint agreement was signed on Thursday, December 12, 2024, between the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, and Fisheries and the Tunisian Solidarity Bank (BTS).

This agreement provides for a budget envelope of 20 million dinars to grant loans to small-scale farmers. These funds aim to facilitate not only the olive harvest but also its transportation and transformation, while ensuring the follow-up of subsequent agricultural work.

This program is part of a strategic approach to control the production costs of olive oil and preserve its quality, a crucial issue for a vital sector of the Tunisian economy.

Indeed, olive oil remains one of the country's main agricultural export products, significantly contributing to its foreign exchange earnings.

The management of these funds will be ensured through close coordination between the regional agricultural development directorates and local BTS agencies.

This collaboration aims to guarantee the proper execution of the loans and overcome any obstacles that beneficiaries may face.
