Nouvelair Expands Fleet with New Airbus A320-200

Nouvelair continues to grow its fleet with the arrival of a new Airbus A320-200. The 12-year-old aircraft, identified by serial number MSN 6178, brings the total number of A320 family aircraft operated by the Tunisian carrier to 19. This addition follows three other integrations since the beginning of 2026, including a brand-new A320neo delivered directly from the factory.

This particular A320-200 brings significant international experience to the fleet. Prior to joining Nouvelair, it was notably operated by airlines affiliated with the AirAsia group. Its integration allows the airline to rapidly bolster its capacity, a critical move given that its operations are heavily focused on European and Mediterranean routes. This expansion is part of a multi-year growth trajectory. According to multiple sources, Nouvelair aims to reach a fleet size of 25 aircraft by 2034, with a progressive increase in the number of Airbus A320neo models. The company has previously announced its ambition to make the neo variant the backbone of its fleet in the long term, citing its superior operational performance and lower fuel consumption.

However, the current fleet remains predominantly composed of classic A320-200s. Data available as of September 2026 lists 14 A320-200s and three A320neos in Nouvelair’s owned fleet, while certain aircraft may be temporarily operated under wet lease agreements (with crew).

For the airline, the stakes go beyond simple aircraft renewal. The fleet expansion is designed to support the widening of its route network and provide greater capacity on international markets, while simultaneously preparing for the gradual replacement of older aircraft with more efficient A320neo models.
