The Ministry of Health unveiled an ambitious plan on March 10, 2026, in Tunis, to improve the management of cardiovascular diseases. During a meeting with the executive office of the Tunisian Society of Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery, Minister Mustapha Ferjani presented immediate measures to strengthen care and prevention.
Key Components of the Plan
At the heart of this initiative is the digital platform "Monkidh", a first of its kind in Africa. According to an official statement, it aims to train volunteer citizens, nicknamed "Monkidh" citizens, to intervene quickly in case of a cardiac arrest. Their action will be directly linked to emergency teams and control rooms, reducing the time before medical care is provided.
The Ministry also plans to modernize the digital hospital using artificial intelligence and tele-cardiology, including:
- Remote monitoring of blood pressure and ECGs
- Use of connected medical equipment for remote examinations
- Strengthening the "Najda" platform to facilitate access to digital health services
Prevention and Research
In terms of prevention, a national registry of infarctions will be established to better monitor patients and optimize their care pathway. Simultaneously, screening campaigns and mobile clinics will be deployed in all regions to detect and prevent cardiovascular diseases. The Minister emphasized the importance of training more specialists in cardiology and cardiovascular surgery and supporting scientific research to keep up with technological advancements and improve the quality of care. According to him, digitization and early prevention are now key tools for saving lives and strengthening the management of cardiovascular diseases in Tunisia.
