Tunisia Signs Contract for Construction of King Salman Ben Abdelaziz University Hospital in Kairouan
The Ministry of Health officially signed the contract for the construction and equipment of the future King Salman Ben Abdelaziz University Hospital in Kairouan on Wednesday, December 10, 2025. This long-awaited step marks the transition of the project from planning to reality.
A Project of National Importance
The Minister of Health emphasized that this hospital, which has been on hold for over eight years, is now being closely monitored by the President of the Republic, Kaïs Saïed. This direct oversight aims to accelerate the completion of major public projects and ensure that every citizen has dignified and equitable access to healthcare.
Strengthening Tunisian-Saudi Relations
The Minister also praised the strength and consistency of Tunisian-Saudi relations, highlighting that these ties are translating into concrete initiatives, including the future hospital. According to the Ministry of Health's statement, the construction site will cover an area of 69,000 m² and is expected to be completed within 36 months.
Project Details
The project's financing is based on a $85 million donation from the Saudi Development Fund, while the current contract value for construction, excluding medical equipment, is approximately $143 million. Upon completion, the hospital will have 500 beds, with the possibility of expansion to 700 beds, a rare capacity for the region.

The Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to Tunisia reaffirmed his country's commitment to supporting Tunisian projects. He emphasized that the hospital is not only an investment but also a gesture that reflects the depth of human, historical, and fraternal ties between the two countries.
